The Green Bay Packers selected Iowa Offensive Tackle Bryan Bulaga with the 23rd overall pick in the 1st round of the 2010 National Football League Draft on Thursday night. Coming into the Draft the Packers did not really have any immediate needs for the the upcoming season. However, looking into the near future, the Packers needed to address certain positions in this years draft(OT, CB, SS, LB). Well, that is exactly what the Packers did with their 1st round pick of the 2010 NFL Draft in selecting Bryan Bulaga. This selection addresses a need the Packers will need in the near future. Injuries and age have depleted the Packers O-line over the past few seasons. It seemed from week-to-week various players were being shifted to different positions on the line trying to find a combimation of 5 players that worked. Both tackles, Chad Clifton and Mark Tauscher are near the very end of their careers. One of the biggest problems the team had last year was protecting QB Aaron Rodgers who was sacked an NFL-high 57 times. The game of football starts up front and if you can not protect your QB and give him the time to make plays then you will not be able to compete. Just imagine the numbers that QB Aaron Rodgers would be able to put up if he had decent protection in from of him. Last year, he already put up huge numbers and finished as one of the best QB's in the NFL even after being sacked 57 times. Not to mention, how many times he was hurried or knocked down. Now, the Packers may have someone who could help protect him for years to come down the road. Bryan Bulaga stands at 6'5" tall and weighs in at 315 lbs. He was a two-year starter at Iowa for Kirk Ferentz earning Big Ten All-Conference honors twice. Was also named an All-American and Big 10 Offensive Lineman of the year in 2009 helping Iowa to a BCS bowl victory in the Orange Bowl. Green Bay may be the perfect fit for him in the NFL as he played his college ball at Iowa in the Midwest as well. Rounds 2-7 of the 2010 NFL Draft continue through the weekend. The Packers have the 56th Pick in Rd 2, 86th in Rd 3, 122nd in Rd 4, 154th and 169th in Rd 5, 193rd in Rd 6, and the 230th pick in Rd 7. GO PACK GO!!!
