WOW. This past weekend I went skydiving for the first time at Start Skydiving in Lebanon, Ohio. To say the least it was an experience of a lifetime. I can only attempt to describe the experience in words. Just the idea of jumping out of a plane at 12,500 feet and free falling to the Earth at up to speeds of 130 mph is mindboggling. I was nervous before the jump, but also very excited and anxious as well. Once I was fitted into my jumpsuit these feelings only intensified. The staff at Start Skydiving was great. I could not belive how nonchalant and care free they were. Here I was sitting in the plane during the climb almost losing my mind when the guy who I am jumping with and all the others are jamming out to music and cracking jokes. Once we reached the altitude of 12,500 feet and were good to jump, my jumpmaster made all the final preparations and safety checks. Shortly after, the door was opened. At this point, the reality of actually jumping out of the plane hit me. To make things worse we were going to be the last to jump. One by one everyone else took the leap out of the plane. This made me even more anxious to go. We hobbled towards the door, stood up, my jumpmaster gave me the count of three, and we jumped out of the plane. The initial fall out of the plane was amazing. To be heading straight towards the Earth, high above the clouds and where everything looked so small was nuts. The feeling and view was indescribable. After approx 40-50 seconds of free falling 10,000 feet and up to speeds of 130 mph, my jumpmaster deployed the parachute at 2,000 feet. When the parachute was deployed, the camerawomen who was filming my jump did not deploy her parachute and kept falling. It really put how fast I was falling into perspective, because she was out of sight im a vlink of an eye. Once this was done and I was readjusted in my harness, I was able to enjoy the view and relax. This part was very enjoyable as it last about 4 minutes. We looped back and forth to slow our decent. The view was great. The landing went smoothly. I recommend skydiving to anyone who wants to experience one of the greatest feelings and thrills of a lifetime. I already want to do it again.
