Packers 26 Lions 0

I did not get to watch any of the Packers game today as I attended the Cincinnati Bengals game with Stacey, Father, and Uncle. It was fun to spend time with them at the game. If the Packers were playing anybody else other than the Detroit Lions I do not know if I could have missed the Packers game, but its the Lions and I would be damned if they are going to lose to them, especially at home. The Green Bay Packers(3-2) defeated the Detroit Lions(1-5), 26-0 at Lambeau Field. It was the Packers 8th straight victory over the Lions in the series and and NFL-record 18 straight home victory against the Lions in the state of Wisconsin. The game should have been much worse than as to what the final score showed. The Packers jumped out to a 23-0 lead at the half and may have gotten complacent as they did not extend the lead as they should have to a bigger margin. The Packers Defense dominated the Lions, holding them to 149 total yards. THe Packers Defense also recorded 5 sacks and forced 3 INT. Detroit also did not convert a single third-down donversion. However, as expected the Detroit Lions were without starting QB Matthew Stafford and WR Calvin Johnson. Needless to say the Packers Defense which has transitioned to the 3-4 this year put out a solid performance to gain confidence from. However, the Packers Offense continues to struggle in key aspects of the game. Yes, the Packers Offense did rack up 435 total yards and were seemingly in control of the entire game, but they also had to settle for 4 FG and gave up 5 sacks. The Packers now lead the NFL in sacks given up at 25. To make things worse, LT Chad Clifton who was back from injury after mising the last two games appeared to re-aggrivate his ankle injury and had to leave the game. The Packers Offense also committed 7 penalites. Bottom Line: the Packers Offense needs to improve. Settling for 4 FG while deep in your opponent's territory, giving up sacks, and committing penalties in a game may not be enough against you for team's like the Lions to beat you, but a performance like that will not get it done against the Vikings or Bears. Every time your Defense forces a turnover ang gives you the ball deep in your opponent's territory you need to puch it in a come away with 7 points. The Packers Offense will have to improve in order for them to compete for the division. Great that the Defense had a dominating performance, but it is the Lions. Take that for what its worth. A win is a win and I will take it. Looking ahead, the Green Bay Packer play the Cleveland Browns(1-5) next week in a game they must have as the November 1st rematch with the undefeated Minnesota Vikings looms closer.
