Braun, Hart, & Gallardo Named NL All-Stars

Three Milwaukee Brewers have been named to represent the 2010 National League All-Star Team for the 81st Major League Baseball All-Star Game at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California. They are: LF Ryan Braun, RF Corey Hart, and P Yovani Gallardo. This will be the third year in a row that Ryan Braun has started for the National League in LF. Not even Milwaukee Brewers HOF Robin Yount and Paul Molitor accomplished such a feat in the careers. He also led all Major League Baseball Outfielders in total votes with 2,972,525. To be honest with you, I obviously expected Ryan Braun not only to make the team, but to start as well. P Yovani Gallardo is very deserving as for the most of the year he has been the MLB strikeout leader. However, he will not be able to play in the game as he has been placed on the 15-day DL by the Brewers. He is expected to be back for the 2nd half of the season. He will attend the MLB All-Star Game festivities though. However, RF Corey Hart is a surprise. He is not a surprise because he did not deserve it by his numbers as he is batting .284 with 19 HR and 61 RBI. RF Corey Hart was not even on the All-Star ballot. He was not even the Brewers starter in April. He had a terrible Spring and the Brewers signed veteran OF Jim Edmonds to take his place. What really makes this special for Corey Hart is that he was voted on the team on the player’s ballot. A lot of people do not like the All-Star game voting rules because mostly with the fan vote it is a borderline popularity contest. The same names usually are in it every year. Corey Hart was named to the team by his peers and I am sure that is extra special to him given the Spring and start to the season he had. I will not lie to you, Corey Hart has driven me nuts in the past but I am happy for him. He will also compete in the HR Derby Contest. He has the power, but can also pull a ball to RF as well. Given the Brewers record and then seeing that they have 3 MLB All-Stars this year indicates to me that they should be better than what their record shows. Offensively they have no problems. Pitching is the problem. Other than Gallardo they have no starter in the rotation that is consistent ant the Bullpen blows. However, the starting rotation has been more consistent in June and July. May was a nightmare. If the Brewers can head into the break 6,7, or 8 games back I feel like they could go on a run as the NL Central is not very strong this year other than the Cincinnati Reds. Looking forward to the rest of the season. Congratulations to the 2010 Milwaukee Brewers All-Stars! Braun, Hart, and Gallardo!!!
