The Green Bay Packers(4-4) lost on the road to the previously winless Tampa Bay Bucaneers(1-7) by the score of 38-28. Tampa Bay Rookie QB Josh Freeman making his first career NFL start, lead the Bucs comeback win as they trailed 28-17 with just 6 minutes to go in the 4th Q. The Bucs went on to score 21 unanswered points to win the game. Needless to say, the Packers have reached rock bottom thus far in the season at the mid point. I thought the two losses to the QB Brett Favre-led Vikings were awful and hard to swallow. Think again. O-line protection and special teams coverage continue to be a problem. The game is won and lost in the trenches. No matter how many weapons the Packers have on Offense, if they can not protect QB Aaron Rodgers(League high 37 sacks) and give him the time to make plays they can not beat anybody. Special teams punt and kickoff coverage units continue to throw the Packers Defense under the bus by allowing the opposing teams to play on a short field, not to mention the 31-yard blocked punt that was returned for a TD. The 83-yard kickoff return after the Packers went up 28-17, gave the Bucs life and hope and in turn shifted the momentum of the game. Still a lot of football left in the season, but the Packers could not afford to lose this game against the previsouly winless Bucs, but they did. 5-3 sounds a lot better than 4-4 if you ask me. We can sit here all day an make excuses, but the Packers inability to put the game away cost them in the end. Now, they sit at 4-4 with a tough home game ahead next week against the Dallas Cowboys(6-2). This begins a stretch of 2 games within 12 calendar days as the Packers play on Thanksgiving Day this year. The Cowboys have quietly moved to 6-2 after starting the season slow and after much criticism on Cowboys QB Tony Romo. Packers need to beat the Cowboys at Lambeau where they have struggled historically in order to keep in the hunt for the NFC Wild Card. GO PACK GO!!!
You would have thought the Bucs won the SuperBowl.....No......they just won their first game by beating the Packers.....Awesome.
