Packers DE Johnny Jolly Suspended for 2010 Season

Green Bay Packers DE Johnny Jolly has been suspended indefinitely for the upcoming 2010 NFL Regular season after violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy. This was a long time coming as this stems from his drug charges after being arrested outside of a Houston nightclub last year. Jolly was found to have 200 grams of codeine in his possession. The drug is becoming more popular as it is mixed w/ a fruit drink and referred to as “purple drank.” The loss of DE Johnny Jolly is a blow to the #1 ranked Defense in the NFL last year. Jolly played an important starting role in Dom Caper’s 3-4 Defensive scheme. He helped the Packers hold opponents a NFL low 83 rushing yards per game last season. The Packers still are relatively deep on the D-line as they have Ryan Pickett, B.J. Raji, Cullen Jenkins, and Justin Harrell. Despite the loss, they still have one of the better D-line in the NFL that uses the 3-4 scheme as they need no pass rushers. However, Commissioner Roger Goodell made the right call. Jolly needs to be held accountable for his actions and punished.  If convicted, Jolly could face up to a 20 year sentence in jail. Hopefully, this ruling will allow the other Packer players on the team to refocus that it is a privilege to no only play in the NFL, but to play for the Green Bay Packers.
