A few weeks ago on Saturday, February 6th, I was lucky enough to experience as to what some would call "once-in-a-lifetime." I traveled up to Madison, Wisconsin to see the #3 Wisconsin Badgers skate against the #19 Michigan Wolverines in the Camp Randall Hockey Classic. The Badgers erased a one goal deficit in the 3rd period to win the game by the final score of 3-2 in front of 55,031 fans. The crowd was the second-largest to ever witness a hockey game at any level of competition. The experience to say the least was unforgettable. I never imagined in my lifetime that I would get to see the Badgers skate outside in an actual game at Camp Randall Stadium. From playing pond hockey to going to Badger hockey games with my Grandpa Ross and Dad during my childhood growing up in Madison, none of us would have ever thought an event like this would have ever taken place. I remember sitting there and thinking what my Grandpa Ross would have thought and liked to have been at the game. I know my Dad really appreciated it a lot. It was special to be at the game with him since he would take me to Badger hockey games growing up when the team used to play their home games at the Dane County Coliseum before the Kohl Center was built in 1998. He also really enjoys the game of hockey. I also brought my friend Tyler to the game as well. I believe the game gave him a better understanding and appreciation for the game that is only widespread and popular in certain regions of the country. The game was awesome from the flyover before the game, “Jump Around” during the 3rd period, Badger Phil chants, to the come from behind victory. It was similar to a Badger football game day atmosphere, but hockey. All in all, this was a special event in what could turn out to be another special year for the Badgers.
