First of all, I went to watched the Packers game this past Sunday at Tickets Sports Bar off Sixth Street in Covington. The owner of the Bar is a Packer fan and they had the game on multiple televisions. It was great to be able to watch the game with approx. 20-25 fellow Packer fans. Gives you a little feeling of watching the game at home. With that said, the Green Bay Packers improved their overall record to 2-1 after defeating the St. Louis Rams 36-17 on the road. I am not sure if this game showed how good the Packers can be or how bad the Rams are. I believe it was a little bit of both. With the Detroit Lions win this past Sunday over the Redskins, the Rams now own the NFL's longest losing streak at 13 games. However, the Packers Offense can use this game as a confidence builder after struggling through the first two weeks of the season. QB Aaron Rodgers finished with 269 yards passing and 3 total TD(2 passing, 1 rushing). The Packers Offense rolled up 402 total yards and also made big plays, which they seemed just to miss in the previous two games. QB Aaron Rodgers hooked up with WR Greg Jennings for completions of 52 and 50 yards. QB Aaron Rodgers also connected with WR Donald Driver on the 46 yard reception as well. These big passing plays kept the Rams Defense honest and opened up the ground game as RB Ryan Grant carried the ball 26 times for 99 yards, a vast improvement from the previous two weeks. The Packers o-line also played better as they yielded only 2 sacks, both of which came in the first quarter of play after giving up 10 sacks through the first two weeks of the season. The Defense also played well forcing three turnovers. Next week the Packer continue their road trip and play the Minnesota Vikings(3-0) on Monday Night Football. Needless to say, this game needs little or no introduction. Not only is it the first game where Vikings QB and Packers legend Brett Favre will play his former team, but a huge divisional game early in the season. Going into the game I am not worried as much about QB Brett Favre as I am RB Adrain Peterson. The Packers Defense has to come to play and contain RB Adrian Peterson. The addition of DT B.J. Raji this week after missing the first two weeks of the season helps in bolstering the Packers run defense. The Packers also can not afford to give up any big plays on special teams as Vikings RB Percy Harvin had a 101-yard kickoff return for a TD this past week. I also know that QB Brett Favre understands and has faced the 3-4 Defense many times in his career before, but if they can pressure Favre, who is much slower now going on 40-years old than his younger days and can not escape quickly from blitzes, they will force him into making mistakes. Even if they can get penetrate and get a few hits on him that would be a plus because then the Vikings would be forced to leave an extra blocker in the backfield and that will take away Favre throwing the chekdown routes to RB Adrian Peterson or Percy Harvin. We all know that they are both very dangerous in space. It will be a tough game, but if the Packers Offense can protect QB Aaron Rodgers giving him enough time to make big plays as the Vikings Secondary is the weakest part of their Defense and contain RB Adrian Peterson I believe the Packers will have an opportunity to walk out of the Metrodome with a win. GO PACK GO!!!
